dc.description.abstractThis paper aims at investigating the needs of engineers when writing in English. The subjects of this study were managerial engineers, operational engineers, ESP teachers, and engineering students in Thailand. Through questionnaire surveys and interviews, detailed results were obtained concerning the writing communication demands placed on engineers in their work, including an exploration of the issues of context and situation. These results have enabled the author to develop teaching and learning materials that match the specific workplace needs of engineers.
