Abstract
The purposes of this research aimed to 1) study the concept of conflict 2) the concept of the view including the right views, false views and systematic attention and 3) analytically study the pattern of conflict management according to Theravada Buddhist philosophy. The result indicated that: Conflict means a disagreement or a fighting between 2 parties and none could avoid conflicts because it occurs naturally to everyone on daily basis. According to Buddhism, conflict is a form of suffering as well as to cause suffering. The key element of conflict is ‘thought’ which dictate human’s action and verbal expression, especially the false view or belief or ‘Ditthi’ in Pali. All the false views or false beliefs have been summarized in the 3rd part of Brahmajala Sutta. They are called ‘62 Ditthis’ or 62 beliefs which are clung to by ascetics in India. These Ditthis discuss about the eternity, the universe, the annihilation and the existence after death. They are all the metaphysics. The Buddha says it is so dangerous to cling to those beliefs. When someone tried to debate with The Buddha about these metaphysic issues, he sometimes ignored the questions due to these Ditthis were beyond human perception to understand and simply taught them about the other Dhammas instead like the threefold training that will lead them to gain the right view or wisdom. The systematic attention or ‘Yonisomanasikara’ is the method leading to wisdom. Once the right view is happened, then the false view causing conflict will be vanished eventually.
