Abstract
C 大学は、2013 年から文部科学省のグローバル人材育成のための取り組みである『SEND(Student Exchange - Nippon Discovery)』プログラムを実施している。
This report examined the role of a government funded Student Exchange- Nippon Discovery (SEND) program, implemented by a private university in Tokyo, Japan. The purpose of SEND is to promote Japanese students’ intercultural understanding through assisting in teaching Japanese and introducing Japanese culture overseas, as well as to nurture experts who could act as a bridge between Japan and the ASEAN countries. Five students practiced teaching Japanese and engaged in exchange activities at a national university in Thailand in 2013 and 2014. Since the first two years of the five-year program has been completed, we conducted a questionnaire survey for the teachers and learners of Japanese asking for their opinions on their experiences with SEND. The findings indicated that SEND provided the learners with educational and affective benefits. It also highlighted the roles and attitudes that the teachers and learners wanted Japanese students’ to play within a classroom.
