Abstract
The main objective of “Thai People’s Ethical and Epistemological Dimensions: A Consideration via the Disagreement about Virtues, Ethics, Cultures, and Disciplines on Social Network Websites” is to analyze Thai people’s ethical dimensions and epistemological dimensions from their disagreement regarding virtues, ethics, cultures, and disciplines in social network websites. The analysis aims to deeply understand Thai people’s basic thoughts which are assumed in the disagreement. The research gathers the information from 10 popular Facebook pages during October 2017 – January 2018. The analysis expresses that there are at least 5 ethical dimensions of Thai people: (1) their attitudes towards the status of goodness, (2) their moral theories, (3) their attitudes towards the sources of goodness, (4) their attitudes towards the scope of doing good things to others and (5) their attitudes towards solutions to ethical problem, and at least 6 epistemological dimensions: (1) their attitudes towards the priority of the sources of knowledge, (2) their difference of information from the same source, (3) their dogmas, (4) their theories of epistemic justification (5) their interpretations of relevant evidence and (6) their epistemological potentials. These dimensions are Thai’s people basic thoughts that affect their opinions in the disagreement, and act as their rules or the value sets. However, their judgments according to these rules can lead to different outcomes. This seems to be because each individual does not equally prioritize those rules, and differently comprehends the information regarding the disagreement. The research found that some disagreements can cause people to explain a good reason or to find the truth about the issues
however, most of the disagreement in 10 popular Facebooks pages do not reach any consensus regarding the topics, which can lead Thai people into the difficulty in understanding other people. That is to say, Thai people are entitled to their own opinions. There can be many reasons explaining these situations. For example, firstly, most Thai people strongly believe in their thoughts so that they cannot see other possibilities about the disagreement. Secondly, those who are the minority in the disagreement may feel insecure arguing against the majority. Such feeling may come from the number of arguers and the hate speech they will confront when trying to argue with the majority. The suggestion of this research is that Thai people (who using social network), education systems and national policies can reduce the problematic situations about the disagreement.
