Abstract
Based on the idea that teacher learning is building the three domains of capacity; personal capacity, interpersonal capacity and organizational capacity (Mitchell & Sackney 2011), this article studies one Japanese language teacher’s learning in Thailand. Given the importance of Japanese language education in the tourism field in Thailand, this study focuses especially on her learning through tour guide training. The participant of this study is Ms. Ueyama (pseudonym) who has been teaching for two years at University A in Thailand. In order to understand her learning as a teacher, I collected data through four interviews and e-mail exchanges. The results showed that: Ms. Ueyama learned the procedure of the tour and how to teach in the tour guide training; her view of teachers changed from ‘a person who teaches right things’ to ‘a person who supports students’ learning.’
