Abstract
The objective of the research was to discuss the question “Criterion of truth according to Kãlãmasutta could defined to be utilitarianism?” in the philosophical approach in order to discover the best answer which compromise all parties and will be the superior reason. The research result was showed that the opposed parties supported the criterion of truth according to Kalamasutta was defined as utilitarianism white composed of 2 groups
1) western utilitarianism, 2) Buddhist utilitarianism. The researcher criticized that the opposed reasons had 2 weak points
1) the hermeneutics was done especially on the consequences of the action by neglecting the consideration of causes and the diagnosis of the reasonable persons, 2) the hermeneutics of the word “Useful” in Buddhism as same meaning as the western philosophy. On the other hand, the researcher had critical thinking that the answer should not to be utilitarianism because “Useful” in Buddhist meaning is the valuated benefits for the development of life quality. The researcher proposed the new answer that the criterion of truth according to Kalamasutta was moderated postmodern philosophy because they had the same principles, methods, and aims
1) both supported the detachment principle, reread all reject none concept and seek variety 2) both supported the critical thinking 3) their objectives were the development of the life quality by individual and public approach.
