Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between Guanyin Bodhisattva and beef-free belief issues based on religious views (Mahayana Buddhism in Chinese context and Taoism). This study analyzed data about the myth of Guanyin, sutras, practices which are part of religions and also related to the Guanyin Bodhisattva or beef. After analyzing, it was found that there is no relationship between beef-free belief and Mahayana Buddhism in the Chinese context. However, for Taoism, just only one religious idea is widespread and may influence the belief, which is that if we are overwhelmed by the kindness of cattle, we should not eat cattle that till rice fields for us, which appeared to be a factor in beef-free belief assumptions.
