วิทยานิพนธ์นี้มีจุดมุ่งหมาย เพื่อศึกษาคำยืมภาษาบาลีและสันสกฤต ที่ปรากฏใช้ในวรรณคดึเรื่องมหาชาติคำหลวงกัณฑ์ทศพร จากฉบับที่เป็นสำเนาคัดลอกจากต้นฉบับโดยได้ถ่ายเป็นไมโครฟิล์มไว้แล้ว วิทยานิพนธ์นี้แบ่งออกเป็น 5 บท คือ บทที่หนึ่ง บทนำ กล่าวถึง ความสำคัญของการวิจัย ความมุ่งหมายของการวิจัย วิธีดำเนินการวิจัย แหล่งข้อมูล เอกสารและงานวิจัยที่เกี่ยวข้อง นอกจากนี้ในตอนท้ายยังกล่าวถึงประวัคิและความเป็นมาของมหาชาติ เพื่อแสดงให้เห็นถึงความนิยมและการแพร่กระจายของวรรณคดึเรื่องนี้ บทที่สอง กล่าวถึงระบบเสียงภาษาบาลี-สันสกฤต และภาษาไทยสมัยอยุธยา ซึ่งเป็นการศึกษาเปรียบเทียบจากข้อมูลซึ่งมีผู้ศึกษาไว้ก่อนแล้ว บทที่สาม กล่าวถึงที่มาของคำยืมภาษาบาลีและสันสกฤตในมหาชาติคำหลวงกัณฑ์ทศพร เพื่อจะได้ทราบว่าคำยืมในวรรณคดีเรื่องดังกล่าวมีที่มาจากภาษาใดมากกว่ากัน บทที่สี่ ศึกษาการเปลี่ยนแปลงทางด้านเสียงของคำยืมภาษาบาลีและสันสกฤตเฉพาะเสียงสระและเสียงพยัญชนะเท่านั่น บทที่ห้า ศึกษาความหมายของคำยืมภาษาบาลีและสันสกฤต เพื่อจะได้ทราบว่ามีการเปลี่ยนแปลงความหมายของคำยืมไปในลักษณะใดบ้าง
The aim of this thesis is to study Pali and Sanskrit loan words in Dasavara Kanda of the Mahachat Khamlaung from microfilm. It is divided into five chapters as follows. Chapter one deals with the purpose and scope of the thesis, method of study, source and doucument and the origin of the Mahachat. Chapter two deals with the phonological system of Pali-Sanskrit and Thai of Ayudhaya period. Chapter three deals with the analysis of Pali and Sanskrit loan words in Dasavara Kanda of the Mahachat Khamlaung. Chapter four deals with the analysis of phonetic change of the loan words. Chapter five deals with the semantic change of the loan words. And conclusion of the study.
