บทบาทของมหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ในวิกฤตการณ์เมืองไทยในเดือนตุลาคม 2516 เป็นที่รับรู้ในวงกว้าง บทบาทและแนวคิดของนักศึกษาธรรมศาสตร์ได้รับการศึกษาและนำเสนออย่างกว้างขวาง อย่างไรก็ตาม องค์กรนักศึกษาของสถาบันนี้เป็นโครงสร้างสำคัญในการทำกิจกรรมของนักศึกษาธรรมศาสตร์ ถูกสร้างและพัฒนาควบคู่กับมหาวิทยาลัยและนักศึกษามาหลายทศวรรษแต่กลับไม่ได้รับความสนใจศึกษาเท่าที่ควร แม้ว่าองค์กรนี้จะมีผลกระทบต่อทั้งสถาบันการศึกษาและการเมืองระดับชาติ บทความนี้จึงมุ่งศึกษากำเนิดและพัฒนาการขององค์กรนักศึกษาในบริบทประวัติศาสตร์การเมืองที่มีความสำคัญกับทั้งนักศึกษาธรรมศาสตร์และของคนไทย เพื่อแสดงให้เห็นว่าองค์กรนักศึกษานี้เป็นแรงผลักดันที่อยู่เบื้องหลังการเคลื่อนไหวทางการเมืองของนักศึกษามาโดยตลอด
The political role of Thammasat University in Thai political crisis in October1973 is widely recognized, and the significant role and ideas of Thammasat students had been widely studied and publicized. However, the student union, which has been the essential structure in activities of Thammasat students and was established and developed alongside the university and students for many decades, did not receive similar recognition despite its an impact on both the institution and national politics. This article studies the origin and evolution of Thammasat student union in the context of political history that is significant for Thai people and Thammasat people, to show that the union has always motivated the political activities of Thammasat students.
