The historiographies has the important role in the politics of the Philippines from the colonial period to the present day. It was the main instrument for manufacturing the legitimacy of the Spain’s, America’s, and Japanese’s occupation... of the Philippines’ history in order to understand a politicalhistory of the Philippines historiographies from the colonial age to the post-colonial period.

A quest for the national collective memory of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) has been deeply related to the state's ideologies, in responding to the social and political interests of the state in each period... in the Philippines national history. Nevertheless, the state's domination in a construction of the collective memory of the NHCP has brought some Filipino historians to search for dissent histories as a counter-collective memory. Moreover, the challenge
