dc.description.abstract | 1) to study the principles of the Ayatanas (sensespheres) that appear in the Buddhist scriptures, 2) to study the attainment in Theravada Buddhism, and 3) to analyze the doctrines that affect the attainment in Theravada Buddhism. The research is based on the study and analysis of documents on primary and secondary sources including the integration of qualitative research with in-depth interviews with relevant samples. The research found that Ayatanas are the processes of recognition through experience with eyes, ears, nose, tongue and mind and they are categorized into internal and external Ayatanas. The human mind is the base of feeling, either wholesome or unwholesome, in every life moment. The wise or knowledgeable ones will be aware of stimuli or emotions that come in contact. They are keen to select and decide in the right way, to be able to use every stimulus as a tool to create wisdom for life and to raise the mind not to be slaves to passions by controlling sense-faculties and channels that are matters of organs namely eye, ear, nose, tongue, body and mind by developing 5 senses to reach the destination that is nirvana. It is the cessation of heat and anxiety from passion and the eradication of lust, anger and delusion by extremely practicing the principles of 37 qualities contributing to enlightenment to avoid declination of mind and wisdom and it is the basic process of further development. The rules that are applied to classify the level of attainment are called fetters being used to divide levels of the noble ones namely the Stream-enterer, the Once-returner, the Non-returner and the Worthy one who resort Ayatanas in managing concentration in 3 levels as preliminary concentration, proximate concentration and attainment concentration, the last of which is regarded as the highest one. The attainment in Buddhism is the ideology or goal by means of the qualities contributing to enlightenment namely 4 foundations of mindfulness, 4 great efforts, 4 paths of accomplishment, 5 sense-faculties, 5 powers, 7 constituents and 8 paths which lead to that very goal. | |
