dc.description.abstractการวิจัยนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์ 3 ประการ คือ 1) เพื่อศึกษาประวัติพระอุปคุตในคัมภีร์พระพุทธศาสนา 2) เพื่อศึกษาคติความเชื่อเรื่องพระอุปคุตในวิถีชีวิตของชาวพุทธ 3) เพื่อวิเคราะห์เชิงปรัชญาด้านอภิปรัชญาและจริยศาสตร์ ที่ปรากฏในเรื่องพระอุปคุต เป็นงานวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ เน้นการวิเคราะห์เอกสาร ผลการศึกษาพบว่า คือ 1) ในด้านหลักฐาน เรื่องพระอุปคุตไม่ปรากฏในพระไตรปิฎก แต่ปรากฏในคัมภีร์ยุคหลัง คือ อโศกาวทาน และ ปฐมสมโพธิกถา เล่าว่า ท่านเป็นที่รู้จักเพราะการแสดงบทบาทเด่นด้วยการใช้ฤทธิ์ปราบพญามาร ในคราวฉลองสถูปของพระเจ้าอโศกมหาราช 2) ในด้านพระอุปคุตกับวิถีชีวิตของชาวพุทธ เมื่อใดก็ตามที่ชาวพุทธจะประกอบพิธีกรรมสำคัญ ต้องอัญเชิญพระอุปคุตมาคุ้มครอง เพื่อให้งานลุล่วงไปด้วยดี จึงเกิดประเพณีอัญเชิญพระอุปคุตมาคุ้มครองทุกพิธีกรรมที่สำคัญ และประเพณีตักบาตรเป็งปุ๊ด 3) ในด้านแนวคิดเชิงปรัชญา ในเชิงอภิปรัชญา การมีอยู่ของพระอุปคุตแม้เป็นเพียงนามธรรม แต่ก็อาศัยหลักแหล่งเกิดความเชื่อมายืนยันคือ ศัพท-ประมาณ (แหล่งความรู้จากหลักฐานอ้างอิง) จึงเป็นผู้ที่มีตัวตนอยู่จริงในความคิดและความเชื่อ ในเชิงจริยศาสตร์ ความเคารพในพระอุปคุตเป็นกรอบให้ชาวพุทธได้ทำความดี คือ การบูชาอย่างเป็นรูปธรรม เพราะการบูชา เป็นบุญกิริยาวัตถุ การบูชาพระอุปคุตทำให้เกิดคุณค่าหลายประการ คือ คุณค่าต่อครอบครัว ชุมชน ศาสนา และสังคม ซึ่งสาธุชนนำหลักจริยธรรมนี้ไปปฏิบัติในวิถีชีวิตได้
dc.description.abstractThis research is of three objectives: 1) to study the story of the Elder Upa-gutta in Buddhist Texts, 2) to study the Elder Upagutta’s traditional belief in Buddhist way of life. 3) to analyze the philosophical ideas on the Metaphysical and Ethical stand points that appeared in the narratives of the Elder Upagutta. This is a qualitative research based on documentary analysis.The results revealed that : 1) evidently, the story of the Elder Upagutta did not appear in Tipitaka, but it was found in the latter texts such as Asokavadana and the Prathamasambodhikatha. Also, the famous story of Upagutta defeats Mara has been told in a celebration of King Ashoka’s stupa.2) On the aspect of the Elder Upagutta in Buddhist way of life, whenever Buddhists organize important rituals, they must invite him to protect those cere-monies and prey for success. This then became a tradition to invites Upagutta to protoect all important rituals such as the full moon Wednesday’s Alms Giving.3) On analyzing metaphysical concepts, even though the existence of the Elder Upagatta is abstract but this belief depends on the study of religious texts (Sabdapramanaen

On the Ethical aspect, it can be found that the respectation of the Elder Upagutta set the framework for Buddhists ethics i.e. the worship, and respect. These rituals guide people to do good deed. Because worship is considered as merit. In addition, the worship of the Elder Upagutta has raise many values to family, community, society, and religion itself in the sense that people apply ethical principles to their way of lifeen
